Explorer Scouts is where teens aged 14–18 get stuck into the outdoors, try new things, and build independence. From camping and hiking to planning events and helping in the community, it’s all about learning by doing and having a great time along the way.
They’ll pick up skills that matter: leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, plus a real sense of responsibility. Many work towards top awards like the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen’s Scout Award.
And through the Young Leaders’ Scheme, they can even mentor younger Scouts – gaining confidence while making a difference.

Explorers Promise
The Promise is a simple way to help young people and adults celebrate their shared Scout values. Scouting is available to people of all faiths as well as people who are humanist, atheist or have no affirmed faith and therefore must take account of the different religious obligations or non-religious beliefs of its Members.
Similarly, people of other nationalities who are residents of the United Kingdom and may become members of the association owe allegiance to their own country. To meet these circumstances, different variations of the Beaver Scout, Cub Scout and Scout Promise can be made, allowing for the individual’s obligations while upholding the essential spirit of the Promise.
The Explorers Promise for members who are atheist or of no faith background
On my honour, I promise that I will do my best, to uphold our Scout values, to do my duty to The King, to help other people and to keep the Scout Law.
The Explorers Promise for members who are Buddhist
On my honour, I promise that I will do my best to seek refuge in the Triple Gem, to do my duty to The King, to act with compassion towards all life and to keep the Scout Law.
The Explorers Promise for members who are Christian
On my honour, I promise that I will do my best, to do my duty to God and to The King, to help other people and to keep the Scout Law.
The Explorers Promise for members who are Hindu
On my honour, I promise that I will do my best, to follow my dharma and do my duty to The King, to act with compassion towards all life and to keep the Scout Law.
The Explorers Promise for members who are Humanist
On my honour, I promise that I will do my best, to uphold our Scout values, to do my duty to The King, to help other people and to keep the Scout Law.
The Explorers Promise for members who are Jewish
On my honour, I promise that I will do my best, to do my duty to God and to The King, to help other people and to keep the Scout Law.
The Explorers Promise for members who are Muslim
In the name of Allah, the most beneficent and the most merciful, I promise that I will do my best to do my duty to Allah and then to The King, to help other people and to keep the Scout Law.
The Explorers Promise for members who are Sikh
On my honour, I promise that I will do my best, to do my duty to Waheguru and to The King, to help other people and to keep the Scout Law.
Scout Law
The Scout Law and our values help young people and adult members remember and show their Scout Promise throughout their lives.
Therefore, every member must consider the Scout Law and Scout Values. They should be able to discuss their meaning before making their promises and being invested in Scouts.
