Plant a Tree for the Community

A very successful event last Saturday 26th November attended by 40 volunteers. We had help with the planting from our neighbours at Abbotswood and also from the Girl Guides that use our hall. A big thank you to everyone. We were very well supplied by Mandy and Mags’ catering team- bacon rolls and drinks at 9am to warm us up before setting off. They even produced a mobile unit and gave us  a tea break on site!wp_20161126_10_40_23_proWe formed in teams of twos and threes to carry out the planting, staking (bamboo canes) and guarding (spiral guards to protect from rabbits). There were 300 or so native hedgerow trees which were planted to boost the 15m wide strip along the Abbotswood side of our boundary.wp_20161126_09_58_44_pro

A new supplier had been sourced for our group clothing. These are not part of the official uniform, but help members and supports to be identified when on outings, camps, visits or when uniform is not practical.

We have designed a logo to be used on items of clothing, to be worn by members and supporters of 10th Romsey Scout Group – adult sizes available.

We have a page setup with Tesco School embroidery, whereby individuals can purchase items directly.  We have initially arranged for T shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, half zip fleece, full length zip fleece with a hood and a fleece hat. These are bottle green in colour with the Group logo on the left breast.

Items can be ordered from and then by searching for 10th Romsey Scout Group. As an example a fully embroidered child’s polo shirt is £4.50.  Items are paid for directly by the purchaser and then delivered to an address of your choosing. (postage charges apply) You can collect Clubcard points too!

The group receives a small percentage of all sales.

The items are transferable throughout the Group, so a T shirt bought for a Beaver will still be the same one worn by Cubs etc.

We have received a sample polo shirt and this will be on display in the foyer.  From what we have seen the sizing seems quite small, so you may wish to keep this in mind when ordering.

We do have a few items left from out previous supplier and we will be selling these off at a reduced price to clear the stock.  Look out for leaders at your section meeting later in the new term.

As well as children’s range some items can be bought as adult sizes.

Parents – your children will be bringing home some more information about this in due course.

Settling back after the summer break – at full on pace

Welcome back to all. A couple of weeks in and the cubs have already had their scrapheap challenge. Very difficult for the chairman and wife to judge – but we have a winning six from each pack. Well done to all teams that took part. No photos to post – we don’t want to give away any trade secrets for the District Scrapheap Challenge!
